1. What is a feed?

A web feed is a document (often XML -based) which contains content items, often summaries of stories or weblog posts with web links to longer versions. Weblogs and news websites are common sources for web feeds, but feeds are also used to deliver structured information ranging from weather data to "top ten" lists of hit tunes. While RSS feed is by far the most common term, the generic "web feed" terminology is sometimes used by writers hoping to make the concept clear to novice users, and by advocates of other feed formats.

The terms "publishing a feed" and syndication are used to describe making available a feed for an information source, such as a blog. Like syndicated print newspaper features or broadcast programs, web feed contents may be shared and republished by other web sites. (For that reason, one popular definition of RSS is Really Simple Syndication.)

Web feeds are most commonly found in various RSS formats or the standardised Atom format.

2. How do I get a feed?

More often, feeds are subscribed to directly by users with aggregators or feed readers, which combine the contents of multiple web feeds for display on a single screen or series of screens. Depending on the aggregator, subscription is done by manually entering the URL of a feed, by clicking a feed: link in a web browser or by various other methods.

Web feeds are designed to be machine readable, so there is no requirement that they be destined only for human readers. For example, business partners could use web feeds to exchange sales data or other information without any human intervention.

3. Where can I find feeds?
feedNuts.com is a great resource for finding web feeds. All feeds in our database are user submitted and accepted by an administrator once they are reviewed and verified. Each Feed Profile includes buttons to the popular feed aggregators on the web for easy addition.
4. Can I submit a feed?
Yes, you can. feedNuts' database is driven by user submissions. If you come across a feed we do not have in our databse we encourage you to submit it. Our submission form can be found here and is very simple to use.
5. Can I link to my Feed Profile?
Yes, and we strongly advise in doing so. Submitting traffic to your Feed Profile will increase its ranking on the admired list thus increasing its chance to receive more traffic. Sending your viewers to your profile will increase its chance of being rated as well. Sites that take advantage of their Feed Profile will make it onto Nuts' Favs. We suggest you use our Link to Nuts page for linking options.
